I was asked the other day did I miss working in the beauty industry. I thought about my response before I answered and said in reply, "I miss helping women pull their beauty from the inside out."
I realize that makeup is a creative art form, but it is also much more. It is a transformative power to help a woman realize how beautiful she can see herself. And it also helps her to realize how beautiful the world can be around her.
Huh? How so? Well, so as our thoughts go...so goes the world we see. If you feel beautiful, you have the power to see beauty in the world around you.
I'm a student of the world's religions and this week I started a study of the Kabbalah. I've always been interested in this ancient mysticism of spirituality and began to dive deep into this study in both the Hebrew text as well as scholarly presentations.
Like most of you reading this, I'm in search of that beauty that comes from deep within, that helps us see a much different world than the one we encounter daily.
I asked myself recently, what if I could see a beautiful world filled with hope, joy, peace, and no poverty? What if I could see a world filled with freedoms that aren't dictated by another's opinion?
And what does freedom have to do with beauty? Our ultimate search on this journey called life is to be happy. To "be" happy with us and with the world around us.
Yet, unless we are free...we can never be happy. And unless the person staring back at you in the mirror can't see their inner beauty, they can never see their outer beauty.
That sounds like mumbo jumbo. Think about it this way. It appears we are headed into a resurgence of COVID. The problem with not wearing masks is that your inability to see the beauty of life in the outer world will cause you to ignore the science or the impact this disease has on the most vulnerable who might not be as fortunate as the rest of us once they have been exposed and contract this deadly disease.
Even something as basic as life expectancy is tied to your acceptance or rejection of how you see yourself and the world around you.
The thing about makeup is that it has a certain power. It can help us see the beauty in ourselves and the world we live in. When you feel good, you do good. That's what I miss about the beauty of makeup.
